SONGS:
Down By The Bay
Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow back to my home,
I dare not go for if I do, My mother would say
Did you ever see a bear, combing his hair
Down by the bay
Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow
back to my home, I dare not go for if I do,
 my mother will say
Did you ever see a fly, wearing a tie
Down by the bay
Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow
back to my home, I dare not go for if I do,
my mother will say Did you ever see a moose kissing a goose
Down by the bay
Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow back to my home,
I dare not go for if I do, my mother will say Did you ever see a whale with a polka dot tail
 Down by the bay
Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow back to my home,
I dare not go for if I do, my mother will say
Did you ever see some Llamma’s wearing their pajamas
 Down by the bay
Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow back to my home,
I dare not go for if I do, my mother will say
Did you ever have a time, when you couldn’t make a rhyme
Down by the bay

CRAFTS
Use the cheap paper plates from the Dollar Store, and cut it in half.
We used pink and green coloured sand. Have the children spread glue all over the plate ( we used glue sticks )
after glue is spread, have children sprinkle on coloured sand using a spoon (Â using small motor skills, and hand eye coordination) Â To keep down on the mess, I use an empty box lid!
Glue on black buttons for seeds.

WATERMELON NECKLACE
We used dyed noodles, green ( Rind ) Pink ( Flesh ) Purple ( Seeds) and asked the children to make a pattern. To dye Noodles Use 1 tablespoon of alcohol and food colouring, shake in a ziplock bag, then empty bag on a wax paper lined cookie sheet to dry over night.
Â
We had lots of fun with the Watermelons.
Weighing Watermelons
Each child got to hold the watermelon and estimate how much it weighed, some were way off ( LOL ) some were right on. We then tried weighing the watermelon on the bathroom scale, but it didn’t work. So what we had to do was weigh someone on the scale, then weigh them holding the watermelon and subtract their weight. The kids LOVED this! we ended up weighing everyone with and without the watermelon!
Measuring Watermelons
We measured the circumference of the watermelon, Then we measured the circumference of every ones head, The kids had a good laugh over this one! who had a watermelon head? No one even came close! ( LOL ) well OK I was the closest to having a watermelon head!
Charting Watermelons
We charted who likes watermelon and who didn’t.
